It Begins Now

What is a medium? What qualifies one to say "this can pose an art and this can't "? In Los Angeles exists an always free flowing gateway into the complex understanding of what can be translated into art. And while this is true, at the same time it shows it's face with the most clear-cut simplicity. Born from a voice that without sound can be heard clearly. Seen without wanting to, by creating  door with open invitations. This medium openly shows itself in an alley way in the city of West LA. With an artist standing over a collection of ongoing painting like a warrior stands over the defeating of a rival. His name is Edward Michael Doran, known to his fellow artists simply as Thumpz.

Tonight we're standing in a somewhat windy California night. The alley radiating with inspiration, inspiration that beautifully seeps into both Edward and I. Tonight he is my subject and I a temporary muse. The ping-pong of wonder leaks from my fingers and his. He slashing away at the canvas, while I stab at the keyboard with ferocious intent. 

The joining of our two worlds came about on a Thursday in December of 2019. In a parking lot where the lost surrounded us in spectacular numbers Thumpz and I would we were one in the same tribe, two of the same species, 6 degrees from a separation of human beings we both knew very well and until this evening had never connected. December for me was a trying and unforgiving month. The streets became the coldest in Los Angeles history and I ran with them in what seemed at the time a permanent spiraling test of agony and torment. In all my suffering, something happened on this Thursday evening that can only be described as the poetic intertwining of artistic destiny. Where I so clearly loved music and the stroke of the pen Edward Michael Doran lived to create substance out of thin air.

So I ask you again dear reader. What is a medium? What qualifies one to say "This can pose as art and this cannot"
